Making emotionally durable smart toys by (de)embedding technology

PAPER PRESENTATION by Seçil Uğur Yavuz (UNIBZ) at BIN 2020: Designing for Play in New Nordic Childhood.

“This paper tries to shed light into the sustainability of smart toys while tackling the ambiguity of “smartness”. An alternative approach can bring different ways of defining “smartness” that is not depending on technology’s additional features, but on the “smart” usage of technology. This paper addresses smartness from the sustainability point of view and questions if digital technology can be an enabler to bring a different perception on toys to sustain them longer by being embedded for a temporary period?”
